These Jaded Times


A long, naive time ago,
The grays fascinated you.
Then they engulfed you,
You thought quite fully.

But more subtle shades emerged
Each a shade darker,
Each discovered in pain.

Perched testily on
The edges of
Shade upon shade,
Things proceed –
Light one moment,
Raven black the next.

No pot of gold, child,
At the end of the rainbow
Only brass statues
By the blood of your veins
crafted.

For no purpose greater
Than a moment’s mirth.

    The beginning is powerful. I hung on to the end for many moments, trying to merge the shades of grey with the shimmer at the end of the rainbow.

    I LOVE your Musing! Sometimes, the endless grey skies slowly asphyxiate ...Truth is never pleasant, but it's wonderful how you move through the shades of grey... ..living among all that is life...its a beautiful living. So, hold on, my dear. Eventually, it will bring you to that pot of gold!Lovely poem, Tushara.

      Thank you for your compliments and warmth! This was written in 2011. And I think, since then, life has gifted me a few pots of what have truly proven to be gold - in the form of my marriage, a lovely new family and now, a rediscovery of writing. So I stand corrected with respect there being no pots of gold at the end of rainbow. :)
