My View : 'Jack, Jennifer and Jaisalmer', is a story of Jack's visit to Jaisalmer ,and how his professional tour turns into a personal one, when history takes its place. It's a story of revenge, betrayal and true friendship empowered by voodoo tricks.
The sudden switch of events confuses reader for some time until he gets to know what part of the story he is in.Only when you are halfway In the journey then you can realize what the story is all about, till then author narrates some episodes which doesn't play major role in the story. From what I could gather, author wants to make it a paranormal cum mysterious story, but that hue I could only sense at the end of the story, and in the initial phase I was just wandering to smell something unusual to caught my attention.
Plot is quite good and the execution of it could be much better. As for a paranormal novel, my expectations were quite high, because its only at the end when I realized that it's a paranormal-fiction.As such kind of stories are meant to bind reader's attention for long and play tricks with reader's mind at regular intervals, nothing of that sort happened with this book.Author should come up with more mystery and instead of filling up readers with background details, he could have bore some seeds of suspense in reader's mind which could result in reader's interest and affection towards the story.
Author has done justice with the title. The fair amount of credit distributed to Jack and Jaisalmer, and the details of Jaisalmer provided in the story gives a fair essence of the surroundings. Some more work on the plot would have done the trick to soothe reader' s mind and sate reader's heart. At some node story succeeds to create suspense and tries to play with reader's mind, but as reader's steps ahead in the maze he/she could not find the presence of maze anymore.Everything is presented so simply that the excitement reader's hold fades in no time.
Characterization is done in a very good manner. As the number of characters are limited in the story, each of them has given a chance to play their role. What I like most in the journey is author's writing style, it is neither too complicated nor too sophisticated, it's like a recipe well prepared and very well served. With the charm of simplicity it has the flavour of maturity. With the same affection author has towards writing,I would like to read his next book which could force me to say how badly it plays with my mind.I suggest author to go through some good thrillers book, and keep a track on how badly they play with mind.
Wish you all the luck!
