Review of Bhakti Sans Religion

Title : Bhakti Sans Religion

Subtitle : Dilemmas in the Search of One's True Inner Self

Author : Mallikarjun B. Mulimani

Blurb : "There is only one God. Unfortunately he is surrounded by infinite veils of sophisticated lies and subtle misdirections, Maya. These veils are harder to shred since we have been conditioned to adapt to the materialistic world with its innumerable religions which preach kowtowing to different external gods as salvation to our horrendous internal needs.

But the reality is that, only faith and platonic unconditional love, both of which together result in devotion, are sufficient to attain bliss if that devotion is concentrated upon an aesthetic object of devotion, without letting even a single stray thought to enter into the peace within oneself, until the object of devotion becomes one with one’s true inner self, which is nothing but the reflection of Brahman, the Atman, which in a rightful spiritual manner becomes one with the Absolute.

My view :
When life goes meaningless
Hook onto it
Because it is your moment
To discover the purpose of your life.

Bhakti Sans Religions covers the journey of two individuals who caught under severe circumstances walks side by side in search of peace. Their ride to attain peace in life and to give a meaning to it, leads them to such a destination where both of them gets to know about each other and get a chance to fall for each other. It's  a story of Rudra and Christine, their bad experience with life, and how they find a purpose to carry on their respective lives.

The story can be partitioned into three phases- Christine's life, Rudra's life, and the part where they both walk towards Guruji's place to attain peace. The first phase discusses about the turmoil of Christine's life and how she deals with it.As author wants to discuss the chapters in a way precise manner, he provides glimpses of her life in few words which in turn becomes an easy task for reader to complete the journey in hardly an hour.As her story keeps on trudging, the reader can find content dispersed in equilibrium. Her story grabs reader's attention till the very last phase of it.Even after compromising with the quantity of words, author , in this section, doesn't compromises with the quality of content.

Coming towards Rudra's section- Lights flashed on Rudra's life doesn't convince reader much as compared to that of Christine's. In Rudra's case, the same feelings and scenarios are kept on repeating mode in such a manner that in such a story which is meant to be told in a precise manner fails to provide an impacting impression on reader's mind.

Talking about the last phase- when their journeys strike , the momentum that their stories contain comes together and becomes the average of both of them. This phase is neither up to the mark nor completely disoriented. This section somehow manages to conclude the story.

It was a nice read considering the amount of time reader has to offer to this book.Where beginning makes reader all set to discover the life of the protagonist, the oomph vanishes as reader progress ahead.
